Choose The Best Swing Set Accessory
Forget any other kind of swing set accessories. Whether you’re talking playground or backyard sets, among all the extras available there is one type of swing set accessory that you almost can’t do without; the trusty slide. Kids enjoy this element of play structures just as much as they do the swings themselves. The two have worked together for so long that it’s very rare to find a swing set without a slide right alongside it.
Remember those old metal swing sets with the tall slide that sometimes got so hot in the summer sunshine? Or perhaps your playground included one of those spiraling metal slides with a tower that contained a mysterious curving staircase inside. Most adults have very fond memories of their local playground slides, so it’s no wonder that even with all the other changes in swing sets, designers have retained the slide and at most just modified it to make it safer, rather than doing the unthinkable and removing it altogether. Some things are sacrosanct, after all.
The slide has changed considerably in character since those early playground days, however. For one thing, the old metal slide has gone out of fashion. Now both the swing and slide assemblies are usually made either of plastic, or of wood frames with plastic accessories. Almost all slides are now of smooth, sturdy colored plastic, whatever material the basic swing set is made of. Even the swing sets made of metal that are still available generally have plastic slides. The Germany-based company, Kettler, has a metal slide as a swing set accessory, but very few other companies do.
Even the shapes of the newer slides are different from the original models in the playground and residential swing sets. A child would have to work very hard to fall off of the plastic slides with their rounded surfaces, and kids certainly don’t find the slides either as hot or cold as the older versions were in different seasons. A slide is one swing set accessory that has accompanied the swings themselves through all the changes that these sets have undergone, yet it has always retained its most important attribute; fun.
