I am of the opinion that first shoes are important once your baby starts walking, and I think it’s best to spend the money on a good pair. Until the toddler starts to walk treat your babies feet as you would a hand, cover for protection and warmth, and no more than that.

According to the top advice from the American Academy of Pediatrics, babies don’t actually need to wear shoes until they begin to walk. Shoes are meant to protect your baby’s feet, especially as she begins to walk outside, and don’t help her learn to walk any faster. In fact, especially if they aren’t flexible or don’t have non-skid soles, many baby shoes can actually make it harder for your baby to take her first steps.

Of course, I am familiar with the views of the pediatric experts who professes it really doesn’t matter the quality of babies first shoes and any store product will be satisfactory. We bought our first pair (stride-right) from a quality shoe maker when our son was 12 months old, and they lasted a agreeably long 6 months. The soles were flexible (which they should be) and the boot a little higher on the foot for stability and fit. They were such good shoes that my second son wore them too.

I’m certainly grateful that I wore good shoes as a kid. I’m middle aged, and back then most kids wore good sturdy lace-up shoes most of the time from very early on. One of my friends has a daughter who is just now a teenager. She’s has always been allowed to wear whatever shoes she wanted, and already her feet are flat and she’s a bit knock-kneed now, which she wasn’t when she was younger, and that could, I think, be partly due to footwear, although I have to say that I am not an expert and have no training in this.

Of course, you could just dress up your baby in a good pair of socks until she is walking. When she is at the cruising and crawling level, soft socks with non-skin soles should work well enough that you don’t necessarily need shoes yet.

The footwear manufacturer Inch Blue, produces a great range of fun and adorable soft leather baby shoes. In a world of mass produced goods that supplier is unique, a welcome tip for lovers of originality, quality and fun design . Inch Blue also makes baby shoes for toddlers and children aged up to 4 years, and are ideal for use in nurseries.

Another good US shoe supplier is Jack and Lily. Their specialty footwear range is the next step in designer baby shoes. Made from the finest ‘Lamb Touch’ leather, these handcrafted slip-ons are one of the softest baby shoes available today.

Please do appreciate the fact that your baby’s feet aren’t just smaller versions of your own, they’re a completely different shape. They’re softer and plumper with hardly any hard bone in them at all. The best baby shoes will always have been designed to give total comfort for little growing feet. The best also are usually manufactured from soft natural leather allowing your baby’s feet to breathe

Make sure the shoe fits. A shoe that is too large will make your child trip and fall. A shoe that is too small will cause sores and be painful to wear.

Buy baby shoes that above all will protect the feet. The shoes don’t need special features like wedges, inserts, high tops or arches unless your baby’s doctor recommends them.

Inspired by a baby’s sense of touch, Jack and Lily’s specialty footwear is the next step in designer baby shoes. Made from the finest ‘Lamb Touch’ leather, these handcrafted slip-ons are one of the softest baby shoes available today.

How fast will my babies feet grow? Honestly the answer is very fast! Baby’s feet grow so fast, you’ll want to remember to measure baby’s feet often to ensure his shoes are fitting correctly.

It is important to allow at least one finger’s width from the end of the longest toe to the tip of the shoe or ¼ to ½” (½– 1 cm) extra when selecting footwear size. If your child wears thick socks inside baby shoes or booties, you may want to allow for some additional room.

There’s no better way to cover a baby’s precious toes than with a pair of soft, snug hand-sewn booties. They may seem daunting, but these slippers are made easy with ingenious templates. Add subtle detailing here and there with punched holes, trim, or snap closures, and the patterns and instructions can be bought from the internet and delivered within days.

Buying baby’s first shoes is an important step. When you buy shoes for the first time it can be a little frightening. There are so many baby shoes on the market, but still you want something that will be comfortable and allow baby to walk. Soft-sole shoes are the type of baby shoes most commonly recommended by pediatricians because they give a baby a sense of footing. Unlike stiff, traditional walking shoes, soft-sole leather baby shoes are totally flexible. Soft-soled baby shoes provide just the flexiblity and freedom of movement, allowing the foot to develop naturally.
